Product Description THE RIEDEL MARK OF QUALITY - Working with the Italian Sommelier association A.I.S.
(Associazione Italiana Sommeliers) Claus Riedel unveiled the world’s first gourmet glass series in Orvieto in 1973.
The series comprised 10 sizes.
The world of wine has changed radically since then.
Today, there are regions and continents producing wine which did not exist or were unknown at the time.
Sommeliers has developed into a comprehensive, state-of-the-art ""Vitrum-Vinothek"".
As a result of global demand, Sommeliers now represents the benchmark among wine glasses and is the most successful hand-made glass series in the world.
Every glass is an individual piece, with the upper part blown into shape and the stem and base shaped by hand using methods that were developed around the time of Christ's birth.
Our glass makers contribute the talent, skill and care required to give the Sommeliers series the hand-crafted finish that our customers expect. Some of the finest and most expensive dry white wines are made from this grape variety, a native of the Burgundy region which is now grown in almost all wine-producing regions worldwide. In the New World, especially, Chardonnay's popularity stems from its creamy structure, which balances oaky, buttery flavors with low acidity.
The variety produces wines of high alcoholic content, often aged in small oak barrels.
Winemakers sometimes add tartaric acid to compensate for its low acidity. The Chardonnay glass is designed so that this low acidity is delivered in a way that sets off the alcohol and rich flavors of the wine, highlighting its velvety, supple texture, emphasizing the fruit and ensuring a long, balanced finish.
This classic Riedel shape allows young wines to express all their invigorating freshness, while more mature wines are encouraged to deliver the nutty, spicy, mineral flavors so typical of the variety. Amazon.com Handmade of mouth-blown crystal, this wine glass is from Riedel's top-of-the-line Sommeliers collection and is for those who take their wine seriously.
Visually impressive, this beautiful glass was developed to enhance the flavor of dry white wines that are native to the Burgundy region.
The glass shape is specifically intended to intensify the velvety, supple texture, emphasising the fruit and ensuring a long, balanced finish in wines such as white Bordeaux, white Burgundy, Chablis, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Corton-Charlemagne, Cortese, Hermitage blanc, Marsanne, Meursault, Montagny, Morillon, Pinot (Blanc, Grigio, Gris), Ruländer, St.
Joseph (blanc), Sauvignon blanc (Barrique), Sauvignon-Sémillon (Barrique), Vernatsch, Viognier.
The classic shape allows young wines to express all their invigorating freshness, while more mature wines are encouraged to deliver the nutty, spicy, mineral flavors so typical of the variety.
The glass weighs a substantial 14 ounces and holds 12-3/8 ounces of wine.
It stands 8-1/2 inches high.
